I was at breakfast with my Chinese friend the other day, when he said something that caught me by surprise. Somehow our conversation reached the topic of social media in China. I was informed that social media is banned in China. This includes Facebook, twitter, and YouTube. This fact is…
It really is interesting how something that we seem to take for granted, (and in our country, assume most people use), can be banned somewhere like China. I had a friend who went to China last year for choir and I remember him complaining about having to go a few weeks without Facebook. When he told everyone why, they were all shocked to learn that the citizens of China weren’t allowed to use the site. My friend would email his dad, and his dad would then post the information on Facebook for him to keep everyone updated. I feel like we are so accustomed to using sites like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, that it’s odd for us to see it to be prohibited in other places, especially somewhere so technologically advanced as China.
